This bill proposes to amend Massachusetts state law to require employers to allow employees to take up to 10 business days of bereavement leave within a 12-month period following the death of a family member. The leave can be used to make arrangements, attend a funeral or equivalent, grieve the death, or attend legal proceedings related to the death. The employer has discretion to determine whether the leave will be paid or unpaid, and the law does not apply to employers with fewer than 10 employees in the state. The bill would take effect on January 1, 2025.
