This bill creates a grant program on alternative assessment models in Massachusetts. For the next three school years, it suspends the requirement for students to demonstrate mastery of a common core of skills as measured by the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System or other statewide standardized tests for high school graduation. It also prohibits the use of student learning measures in educator evaluations during this period. Additionally, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is required to create a grant program to support the establishment of district task forces to develop and pilot alternative assessment models starting in the 2024-2025 school year. The bill also mandates a state audit of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, including a review of its contracts with Measured Progress and any subcontractors.
