This bill seeks to amend Chapter 32 of the General Laws to provide enhanced disability pensions for public employees classified in Group 4 (such as police officers and firefighters) who sustain a "violent act injury" - a serious and permanent bodily injury resulting from a violent attack using a dangerous weapon while performing their duties. The bill allows for 100% of the employee's regular compensation to be paid as a pension, including benefits and stipends, until their death or mandatory retirement age. After reaching the mandatory retirement age, the pension is reduced to 80% of the average annual rate of regular compensation. The employee's spouse and children are also eligible to receive portions of the pension upon the employee's death. Additionally, the bill requires the retirement system to cover all related medical expenses not covered by insurance.
