This bill authorizes the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to establish additional "mandated reporters" for the purpose of protecting and caring for children. A "mandated reporter" is a person 18 years or older who is a paid or unpaid employee or volunteer working in certain professions or roles, such as healthcare, education, social work, law enforcement, and religious organizations. The bill requires these mandated reporters to undergo evidence-based training on preventing child abuse and neglect within 180 days of being designated as a mandated reporter. Refresher training may also be required by the employing entity.
