This bill establishes a special legislative commission on artistic representation in the Massachusetts State House. The commission will review the State House to identify and address any racially or culturally insensitive art, murals, or exhibits, and promote more diverse representation of the Commonwealth's people and history. The commission will include members from the Massachusetts Black & Latino Legislative Caucus, the legislature, and various state agencies and organizations. The commission will make recommendations on removing problematic artwork and commissioning new artwork that better reflects the diversity of the Commonwealth. The commission will submit an initial report to the legislature and the Governor by June 1, 2024, and may file additional reports. The commission can accept funding, including state appropriations and bond funds, to support its work.
