This bill creates a School Resource Officer Grant Program and a related fund within the state treasury. The program will provide matching grants to local law enforcement agencies and school boards that establish collaborative agreements to employ uniformed school resource officers in middle and high schools. These officers will help ensure school safety, prevent truancy and violence, and enforce school rules. The bill also allows the board to use up to 5% of the fund for training the school resource officers, who must be certified law enforcement personnel.
