This bill aims to update the Commonwealth's wiretap statutes. It amends the existing law by striking out the last paragraph and inserting two new paragraphs that acknowledge the need for law enforcement to use electronic surveillance methods under judicial supervision to investigate specific crimes not associated with organized crime, while also prohibiting the secret use of such devices by private individuals. The bill also expands the definition of "designated offenses" to include additional crimes related to organized crime, as well as human trafficking, illegal weapons trafficking, and the use or possession of explosives or chemical, radiological, or biological weapons.
