This bill authorizes a local option for group retirement classification. It allows municipalities and public authorities to improve the retirement group classification for any group of their employees, upon acceptance through a majority vote of the city council and approval by the manager or mayor, a vote of the board of selectmen in a town, or a majority vote of the authority governing board in a public authority. The bill explicitly states that it does not authorize any diminishment of retirement benefits of public employees by placing them in a lower group classification.
