This bill aims to remove barriers to care for physician assistants (PAs) in Massachusetts. It amends various sections of the General Laws to: 1) eliminate the requirement for PAs to practice under the supervision of a physician and under guidelines mutually developed with the supervising physician; 2) allow PAs to provide services within their education, training, and competency, rather than requiring continuous supervision; 3) remove provisions that make the supervising physician legally responsible for the PA's actions; 4) require PAs to practice for at least 2,000 hours under a collaborative agreement with one or more physicians before being able to practice independently; and 5) allow PAs to bill separately for their services.
