This bill proposes to amend the Massachusetts General Laws to allow members of the teachers' retirement system, state retirement system, or State-Boston retirement system who previously worked as teachers in non-public schools to receive creditable service for that time, as if it had been rendered in a public school. The bill defines a "non-public school" as an institution not operated by the government that provides education leading to a diploma or college degree. To receive this credit, the member must have at least 10 years of membership service, pay an amount equal to 10% of their most recent regular annual compensation plus interest for each year of service, and cannot have already received credit for 3 or more years of non-public school service. The creditable service allowed under this bill is limited to a maximum of 4 years.
