This bill proposes to create a new distinctive license plate design that displays support for the arts in Massachusetts. The bill requires the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to offer this special arts-themed license plate to private passenger vehicle owners upon application, with a fee of at least $50 in addition to the standard registration fee. The majority of the revenue from this fee, after deducting the costs of producing the plates, will be transferred to the Massachusetts Cultural Council within 90 days. The design for the arts license plate will be selected through a contest judged by the Massachusetts Cultural Council or its designees.
