This bill establishes a permanent commission on American Indian and Alaska Native education in Massachusetts. The commission will consist of 17 members appointed by various state agencies and the Massachusetts Commission on Indian Affairs. The commission will investigate the use of public and private resources to enhance educational opportunities and outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native students, work with the departments of education and public health on programs related to suicide prevention and anti-discrimination, and make recommendations to the state government on supporting these students. The commission will have the authority to select an executive director, establish offices, enact bylaws, and appoint members to regional chapters, as well as accept and solicit funding for its work.
