This bill establishes a permanent Commission on the Status of People Who Practice Islam in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Commission will have 11 members appointed by various state officials and will serve as a resource on issues affecting American Muslim communities. Its responsibilities include promoting research, informing the public and government about issues facing American Muslims, fostering unity within the Muslim community, and advising on proposed legislation. The Commission can accept funds and will have an executive director appointed for a 3-year term. The initial Commission members will be appointed in December 2024, with the Commission taking effect on that date.
