This bill establishes basic needs assistance for Massachusetts immigrant residents who are lawfully admitted for permanent residence or are otherwise permanently residing in the United States. Specifically, it requires the Department of Transitional Assistance to provide cash assistance and related benefits to eligible children, pregnant women, and caretaker adults, as well as nutritional assistance benefits, regardless of their immigration status or citizenship. These benefits would be provided at the same level and subject to the same requirements as benefits under the existing programs for low-income individuals, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, except for the immigration status or citizenship requirements.
