This bill, titled the Seizure-Safe Schools Act, requires public, private, and parochial schools in Massachusetts to have at least one school employee trained to administer seizure rescue medications and assist with the use of Vagus Nerve Stimulators (VNS) for students with seizure disorders. It also mandates that schools provide training to staff on recognizing seizure signs and symptoms and appropriate first aid steps. The bill requires schools to have a written seizure action plan for each student with a seizure disorder, and it provides liability protections for school personnel who provide assistance in good faith. The bill also requires schools to offer age-appropriate seizure education programs for students. The Act will take effect one year after it is enacted.
