This bill aims to require all public elementary and secondary schools in Massachusetts to be equipped with at least one panic alarm that is directly linked to local law enforcement authorities. The panic alarm must be silent and able to immediately transmit a signal or message to law enforcement upon activation. The bill also allows school districts to install an alternative emergency mechanism approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education instead of a panic alarm. The Massachusetts School Building Authority will be responsible for funding the full cost of the panic alarms or approved alternative mechanisms for public schools. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is tasked with promulgating rules and regulations to establish a program to effectuate the purposes of this bill.
