This bill aims to reduce restaurant waste in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by requiring food service providers to only provide single-use food serviceware and single-use condiments upon customer request. The bill also prohibits new full-service restaurants from obtaining a business license unless they demonstrate that they will only use reusable food serviceware for on-premise dining. The bill requires the Department of Environmental Protection to promulgate rules and regulations for implementation and enforcement, including fines for non-compliance, and to conduct education and outreach to consumers, food service providers, and third-party delivery platforms. The bill also allows cities and counties within the Commonwealth to pass more restrictive laws governing the use of single-use items, as long as they do not violate the provisions of this act.
