This bill creates the position of poet laureate for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The governor will appoint a poet laureate every two years from a list of nominees submitted by a five-member poet laureate nominating committee. The poet laureate will seek to raise awareness and appreciation of poetry, especially among school children. The position is honorary, and the poet laureate will not receive any remuneration or be considered a state official or employee.
