This bill establishes the Ohio Social Studies Standards Task Force to develop new social studies academic standards for use in Ohio schools starting in the 2024-2025 school year. The task force is composed of nine members appointed by the governor, president of the senate, and speaker of the house. The standards will be based on the "American Birthright" model standards developed by the National Association of Scholars. The task force must provide opportunities for public input, including from parents and teachers. The task force must report the proposed standards to the legislature by August 15, 2023, and the standards must be approved by the legislature before taking effect. The Ohio Department of Education will revise the model curriculum to reflect the new standards, which must not conflict with the requirement to incorporate certain original texts into the social studies standards.
