This bill aims to promote housing cooperatives in Massachusetts. It establishes the Massachusetts Center for Housing Cooperatives within the Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation (CEDAC) to provide education, outreach, and support for expanding and preserving cooperative housing, particularly for low to moderate-income residents. The bill also appropriates $100 million in fiscal year 2024 to fund programs administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development, the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency, the Massachusetts Housing Partnership, and CEDAC to acquire real estate, preserve, rehabilitate, and meet the capital needs of existing housing cooperatives throughout the state. The Department of Housing and Community Development is required to submit a report within 180 days on recommendations for creating and preserving housing cooperatives in Massachusetts.
