Bill Summary

AN ACT relating to substitute teachers; requiring school districts to provide certain substitute teachers with a subsidy for the purchase of health insurance coverage; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

AI Summary

This bill requires school districts in Nevada to provide a monthly subsidy of at least $450 to full-time substitute teachers for the purchase of health insurance coverage. A "full-time substitute teacher" is defined as a licensed substitute teacher who is hired by a school district for 30 or more consecutive days of instruction in a single school year. The bill also prohibits school districts from preventing substitute teachers from working the necessary number of days to qualify for the subsidy or reassigning them to other duties to prevent them from receiving the subsidy. The provisions of this bill become effective on July 1, 2023.
