This bill would make firearm owners civilly liable (responsible for financial damages) if their lost or stolen firearm is later used in the commission of a crime, unless the owner reports the loss or theft to the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services and their local licensing authority within 24 hours of becoming aware of the loss or theft. The purpose of this bill is to incentivize firearm owners to be responsible and promptly report any lost or stolen firearms in order to prevent those firearms from being used in criminal activities.
