This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to clarify the group classification for certain public employees and former public employees who are members of a retirement system. Specifically, it expands the definition of Group 2 and Group 4 classifications to include employees or former employees whose regular and recurring majority of duties involve the care, custody, instruction, or supervision of parolees, persons who are mentally ill or have physical, functional, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, or delinquent youth. The bill also allows members who have served in multiple groups to elect to receive a pro-rated retirement allowance based on the percentage of time spent in each group, provided they meet certain eligibility requirements.
