This bill aims to further protect children by amending the General Laws to impose penalties on parents, legal guardians, or caretakers who fail to contact law enforcement or emergency personnel in a timely manner when a minor child in their care, 16 years of age or younger, is missing for more than 48 hours or has died. The bill would punish such failures with imprisonment of up to 5 years in state prison, and in the case of a failure to report a child's death within one hour, with up to 5 years in state prison or a fine of up to $10,000 and up to 2.5 years in a house of correction.
