This bill amends Chapter 32 of the General Laws to provide a presumption that any condition or impairment of health caused by a disease of the lungs or respiratory tract, resulting in total disability or death of a member of a non-contributory or contributory retirement system, was suffered in the performance of the job if the impairment was caused by negative environmental factors in the workplace and occurred subsequent to employment in such workplace, unless the contrary is shown by competent evidence. This change to the disability retirement law aims to benefit public employees who develop certain respiratory conditions due to their work environments.
