This bill proposes to amend Section 9 of Chapter 115 of the General Laws in Massachusetts to require that certain landmarks and bridges across the Commonwealth be illuminated in gold on Memorial Day as part of "Operation Gold Star." The goal of this operation is to recognize Gold Star Families, who have sacrificed greatly for the nation. The operation would be a collaboration between the legislature, the Military Friends Foundation, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and the Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services. The specific landmarks and bridges to be illuminated include, but are not limited to, the Gold Star Families Bridge in Lynn, the Zakim Bridge in Boston, the Longfellow Bridges in Boston, the Fore River Bridge in Quincy/Weymouth, and the Burns Bridge in Shrewsbury/Worcester.
