This bill requires all school buses transporting students to or from public, charter, vocational, private, or parochial schools in Massachusetts to be equipped with lap-shoulder belts for each permanent seating accommodation by September 1, 2025. It also mandates that students wear these seat belts during bus operation. Additionally, the bill requires driver training to include instruction on the use of these lap-shoulder belts. Furthermore, it directs the Commissioner of Insurance to develop and implement a schedule of appropriate reductions in premium charges for motor vehicle insurance rates for school buses equipped with these lap-shoulder belt systems, in recognition of the decreased risk of injury.
