This bill increases the excise tax on alcoholic beverages in Massachusetts. Specifically, it raises the tax on a gallon of beer from $3.30 to $6.60, the tax on a gallon of wine from $0.55 to $1.10, the tax on a gallon of sparkling wine from $0.70 to $1.40, the tax on a gallon of still wine from $1.10 to $2.20, and the tax on a gallon of liquor from $4.05 to $8.10. The revenue generated from this tax increase will be deposited into a new Substance Abuse Health Protection Fund, which will be used to fund comprehensive substance abuse treatment programs, school health education programs, and community-based substance abuse prevention and cessation programs.
