This bill amends Section 9C (1/2) of Chapter 32B of the General Laws to expand the definition of eligible children for death benefits for surviving spouses of call and volunteer firefighters. Specifically, it adds language to include children over the age of 19 who are physically or mentally incapacitated from earning. The bill also removes the requirement for these children to "continue to" be incapacitated, and changes the premium payment from 100% of the premium to the same rate as retirees of the governmental unit for hospital, surgical, medical, dental, and other health insurance.
