This bill designates the Charlestown division of the Boston Municipal Court as the George Lewis Ruffin Courthouse, in honor of George Lewis Ruffin, who was the first African American to graduate from Harvard Law School, the first African American to serve on the Boston City Council, and the first African American judge in the United States, appointed in 1883 and serving in the Charlestown District Court. The bill requires the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance to erect and maintain suitable markers with the new designation.
