This bill amends Section 10A of Chapter 269 of the Massachusetts General Laws to modify the penalties for the possession of firearm suppressors or noise reduction devices. The bill defines "firearm suppressor" or "firearm noise reduction device" as any device that muffles or diminishes the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts designed or intended for use in assembling or fabricating such a device. The bill establishes criminal penalties of up to 10 years in state prison or 2.5 years in a jail or house of correction for certain individuals found in possession of these devices, including those who are prohibited from possessing firearms, engaged in violent crimes or felonies, involved in domestic violence, or conducting controlled substance sales or possession.
