This bill creates the office of "senior justice" within the judicial branch in Massachusetts. Under the bill, any chief justice or associate justice who has served 15 years in a judicial office will be designated as a "senior justice" and receive an additional annual salary increment of $5,000. The office of senior justice is considered a judicial office under the state constitution. Additionally, the provisions of the bill will be credited to the pension of the senior justice upon retirement, in accordance with the state's pension laws.
