Bill Summary

AN ACT relating to public works; requiring, with certain exceptions, a contractor or subcontractor to comply with certain requirements relating to the use of apprentices who are women on a public work; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

AI Summary

This bill revises the existing law governing public works projects in Nevada. It requires, to the extent practicable, that at least 2% of the hours of labor for vertical construction and at least 1% of the hours of labor for horizontal construction performed by apprentices must be done by women. The bill also requires the State Apprenticeship Council to review the policies of apprenticeship programs that do not provide enough women apprentices to enable contractors to meet the required percentages. These requirements do not apply to public works contracts for which bids were submitted before January 1, 2024, and the bill becomes effective on that date.
