This bill enhances the availability of immunity to witnesses in the courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Specifically, it amends existing law to allow a witness who may be called to testify before a grand jury or in a criminal proceeding in the Supreme Judicial Court, Appeals Court, Superior Court, District Court, or Juvenile Court to be granted immunity in any related criminal investigation or proceeding. The bill also expands the courts in which the process for granting immunity can be initiated to include the District Court and Juvenile Court, in addition to the Superior Court.
