This bill aims to assist the investigation of serious crimes by expanding the definition of "transmitted communication" to include a wider range of electronic and digital communications, and by adding several new "designated offenses" to the list of crimes that can be investigated using the provisions of Chapter 272, Section 99. The new definition of "transmitted communication" includes any communication made through the use of various technological means, such as cellular phones, smartphones, and personal data assistants. The additional "designated offenses" include homicide, any crime involving the use of force, controlled substance violations, firearms-related crimes, human trafficking, and related accessory, conspiracy, attempt, or solicitation offenses.
