This bill creates new special veterans' license plates for each branch of the armed forces in Minnesota. The plates can be issued to eligible veterans who do not qualify for existing veterans' special plates and meet certain vehicle registration and fee requirements. The plates will feature a special emblem representing the veteran's branch of the armed forces, and the commissioner of veterans affairs and public safety will work together on the plate designs. The fees collected will be deposited in the vehicle services operating account, and the cost of producing the plates may be covered by funds from the "Support Our Troops" account. The provisions of this bill will become effective on January 1, 2024, for armed forces special veteran plates issued on or after that date.
