This bill allows volunteer first responders, including members of volunteer fire departments, emergency medical first responders, and volunteer ambulance drivers, to use flashing or steady-burning red or red and white combination warning lights on their personal vehicles when responding to an emergency call. The bill amends existing Minnesota statutes to specify the types of warning lights that can be used and the requirements for obtaining permits from the Commissioner of Public Safety to install these lights. The bill also adds an exception to the general prohibition on flashing lights for vehicles operated by volunteer emergency responders.
