This bill clarifies that for marriages entered into in Michigan before the effective date of this amendment, the legal marriage of a minor releases that minor from parental control, and the minor husband or wife is entitled to the same rights, benefits, and privileges, and subject to the same duties, liabilities, and responsibilities, as if they were of legal age at the time of the marriage. The bill also specifies that it is unnecessary to have a next friend or guardian ad litem appointed for a legally married minor in a divorce action, unless the judge requires it. This bill will only take effect if certain other related bills are also enacted into law.
