This bill, the Healthcare Ownership Transparency Act, amends the Social Security Act to require certain healthcare providers and suppliers to disclose information about their ownership, including any involvement of private equity funds. The bill requires the disclosure of detailed financial information, such as debt levels, fees, and political spending, for healthcare entities owned by private equity funds as well as those not owned by private equity. The bill also directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to regularly analyze the information and issue reports on the impact of healthcare consolidation and private equity involvement. Additionally, the bill establishes a task force to study and provide recommendations on limiting the role of private equity in healthcare, and allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to impose a temporary moratorium on private equity purchases of healthcare entities.
