AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to increasing the amount of the savings exemption for eligibility for Medicaid

This bill amends the Social Services Law to increase the amount of the savings exemption for eligibility for Medicaid from 150% of the income amount permitted under the federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program to $300,000. This change applies to both one-person and two-person households. Additionally, the bill increases the household resource limit, other than retirement accounts, from 150% of the income amount permitted under the SSI program to $300,000 for disabled individuals at least 16 years of age but under 65 who would be eligible for SSI benefits but for their earnings. The bill is set to take effect on January 1, 2025, subject to federal financial participation.
