This bill amends the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to further provide for emergency relief by the minor judiciary in cases of domestic abuse. The key provisions include: 1) Orders issued by a hearing officer under the law will now expire at the end of the next business day the court is available, unless a local rule provides that the order expires when the court holds a hearing or within 10 business days, whichever occurs sooner; 2) In counties with a local rule that the order expires when the court holds a hearing, the hearing officer must provide notice to both the plaintiff and defendant of the date, time, and place of the court hearing; and 3) The hearing officer must also advise the plaintiff of available domestic violence programs and the availability of free legal assistance if the plaintiff is unable to pay.
