This bill amends the social services law to require Medicaid coverage to include at least 48 hours of inpatient hospital coverage for mothers and newborns following childbirth by natural delivery, and at least 96 hours following childbirth by cesarean section. It also mandates that maternity care coverage must include parent education, assistance and training in breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, and necessary maternal and newborn assessments. The bill gives mothers the option to be discharged earlier, in which case the coverage must include at least one home care visit within 24 hours of discharge or the mother's request, whichever is later.
