This bill establishes a legislative study group to examine issues related to student attendance and truancy in Minnesota. The study group will be composed of six members from the House of Representatives and six members from the Senate, including the chairs of the Education Policy Committees in each chamber. The group will prepare a report with recommendations on ways to increase student attendance and reduce truancy, considering current statutory requirements, the roles of counties and the Department of Education, and how truant students are tracked across county lines. The report, which must include any necessary statutory changes, is due to the legislature by January 31, 2024.
