This bill requires school districts to grant students in grades kindergarten through twelve excused absences for participation in scheduled 4-H and FFA activities or programs. To receive an excused absence, a 4-H or FFA educator must submit written documentation to the school principal or attendance officer as proof of the student's participation. The district must allow the student to make up any missed schoolwork, and the student's grades cannot be adversely affected by the absence. However, the school principal or designee cannot grant an excused absence if the absence occurs during a scheduled state assessment or during a period of disciplinary action, such as suspension or expulsion, that would preclude the student from participating in an educational field trip or extracurricular activity.
