This bill requires the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to promulgate a consumer product safety standard for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries used in micromobility devices, such as electric bicycles and electric scooters, within its jurisdiction. The standard aims to protect against the risk of fires caused by these batteries. The CPSC must determine the scope of the standard, including the types of batteries and micromobility devices it covers, as reasonably necessary to address the fire risk. The resulting standard will be treated as a consumer product safety rule under the Consumer Product Safety Act.
