This bill aims to promote safe bicycle yielding by amending existing Massachusetts laws. The key provisions include: (1) requiring bicyclists approaching a stop sign at an intersection with 3 or more traffic lanes to come to a complete stop before entering the intersection; (2) requiring bicyclists approaching a stop sign where a motor vehicle is already stopped to come to a complete stop before entering the intersection; (3) allowing bicyclists approaching a stop sign at an intersection with 2 or fewer traffic lanes to slow down and yield rather than stop, as long as they yield to any oncoming traffic; (4) requiring bicyclists to always yield to any motor vehicle that has already entered an intersection; and (5) establishing that when a bicyclist and a motor vehicle enter an intersection from different roads at the same time, the one on the left must yield to the one on the right.
