This bill expands academic transition pathways for sophomore high school students in North Carolina. Specifically, it allows local community colleges to offer career technical education certificates, diplomas, or credentials, as well as college transfer pathways, to qualified sophomore high school students, in addition to junior and senior high school students. The bill also outlines the requirements for admitting freshman and sophomore high school students to these college-level programs, including academic giftedness, readiness, and maturity, as well as parental consent and academic advising. The bill will take effect for the 2023-2024 school year.
