This bill, known as the Biometric Identifier Signage Act, requires commercial establishments that collect, retain, convert, store, or share customers' biometric identifier information (such as fingerprints, iris scans, or facial geometry) to disclose this practice by placing a clear and conspicuous sign near all customer entrances. The bill prohibits commercial establishments from selling, leasing, trading, or sharing biometric identifier information for profit. It also provides customers with a private cause of action to recover damages if their rights under the act are violated, including attorney's fees and other relief. The bill exempts the state and its political subdivisions, as well as financial institutions and certain photography or video recording practices, from its disclosure requirements.
