This bill requires all school buses used to transport students to and from public, charter, vocational, private, or parochial schools, or for school activities, to be equipped with seatbelts that comply with federal safety standards. It also mandates that any person or company contracting with a school district or school for student transportation must file a notice with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education affirming that the school buses used are in compliance with this requirement. The bill provides a one-year implementation period, and requires existing contractors to notify the department of their compliance as soon as it occurs, but no later than the effective date of the new law.
