This bill increases the registration fees for larger and heavier motor vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, minivans, and trucks, starting in 2030. However, it provides a waiver for a portion of the weight added by batteries in electric vehicles weighing no more than 5,000 pounds. The bill also requires that 75% of the additional revenue collected from these increased fees be directed towards funding new state and local street safety projects, such as protected bike lanes and pedestrian improvements, while the remaining 25% be used for maintenance and repair of state and local roadways.
